Starting from the magnificent Niagara Falls, we will boat on the Erie Canal and then head to the Finger Lakes for some wine tasting, hiking and a visit to the Corning Glass Museum.

We then will stay in the 1000 Islands (actually 1864) and take a look at Boldt Castle.  A drive through the Adirondacks (the largest publicly protected area in the contiguous United States) will bring us to Lake Placid/Whiteface Mountain and the US Olympic Training Complex for a tour and an option to try out some Olympic events on your free day.

Travelling down I-87, the Northway, we will stay in the Lake George area to explore Ft. Ticonderoga and Saratoga Springs (the city, the racetrack, the Battlefield and the charming towns along Route 9).

Southward again to the Catskills Region to cruise the Hudson, tour the US Military Academy at West Point and have something to eat at the Culinary Institute of America, aka ‘the CIA’.  An extra day in the Catskills means you can choose your own adventure – hang gliding, parachuting, zip-lining, hiking the ‘Gunks’, visiting Woodstock (Bethel Farms), shopping at Woodbury Commons Outlet Mall or just relaxing.

Our final stop is Croton-on-Hudson, about an hour and a half from NYC and for the next three days our own motorcoach will take us into Manhattan in the morning and pick us up in time to return for a late dinner.  Options in Manhattan are endless – some possibilities are a Dim Sum lunch in Chinatown, the Statue of Liberty/Ellis Island, the 9/11 Museum, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, shopping on Fifth or Madison Avenues or even a Broadway matinee.

The final day of our caravan will take us to the magnificent home of the Rockefellers and end with a delicious farewell banquet.

This is a caravan for the independent traveler – there will be many planned activities but also ample free time to explore your individual interests as we travel through the “Empire State.”

Notes:  Place to place travel is approximately 750 miles but there will be additional driving to get to specific attractions.  Altitudes in the mountains do not exceed 5,000 feet. Weather may be hot and humid or chilly and rainy – can’t tell – last caravan it was sooo hot.  And remember that everything is probably a bit more expensive in NY than you are used to – from campgrounds to candy bars.
